Ahh, The Memories.

Listening to: A.F.I. - Sing the Sorrow
This album immediately sends me back to the townhouse that Eric, Russ, Jeff, and all those other guys lived in back when I was in grade 12. Not because I was there a lot or anything, but because it’s where I listened to it the first time, thanks to my buddy Michael. He wanted to play it for everybody because there were a couple songs that he though were pretty rad. I remember everyone there (who were pretty heavy into Coldplay at the time) being kind (particularly Jeff), but not overly receptive to it. I’ve always greatly respected Michael’s musical opinions, so I went out and bought the CD the next day.

It’s funny that I thought of this story, because the first song , Miseria Cantare, is one I used in making this video of Michael being good at soccer. THE VERY SAME MICHAEL! Crazy. In fact, if it weren’t for Michael, none of this *wide arm motions indicating the blogging kingdom I’ve created* would be possible. Daytona Splendor wouldn’t exist! Daytona Splendor was a name Michael and I came up with for the lead character in movie we made back when we were little boys. I played the part of Daytona Splendor, and he the part of Cash Smith. Oh man, we were geniuses. Geniusi. Genii. Whatever.

As much as I like to think my musical tastes have grown over the years, there’s something very affecting about memory on one’s feelings regarding things like this. I wouldn’t say A.F.I. is a band I ever loved, or one that I would see myself loving these days, but I really love this album, simply because of the nostalgic reverie into which it transports me. I think that feeling is a pretty common one, but it’s a neat one, because people understand it, but always in a very different way, unique to each individual. Deep shit there. Yikes.

Anyway, altogether Sing the Sorrow is a pretty good album. Of course, grade 12 was a pretty good year.
