Memory Lane is Beautifully Furnished.
Now, I know blogs have fallen out of favor with a lot of people in recent years, but I just took some time looking back over some of the posts from July of '04 to November of '06, and I realized I like blogging. It's kinda cool having a brief record of different things over the years, and I think blogs are a relatively quick and efficient way of chronicling certain parts of one's life. So, I'm going to do it more. I don't really care if anyone reads it, I suppose, because it's really more for me than it is for you, faceless Internet world. Along with this, and maybe you'll think less of me for admitting this, I sort of liked the little blogging circles we had on the ol' Info Supe Way. I liked seeing what other people wrote and were up to, and knowing that I wasn't just creeping them on their Facebook status updates. The Facebook update seems cheaper, somehow, than a blog, and I, for one, felt more honorable reading someone's blog than checking out their latest pics. I'm sure there are those of you who disagree with me, which is totally fine and probably more right, but I like the blogs. They felt more intimate than Facebook. I mean, I have upwards of 400 friends on Facebook, and I only look at about 5 of them on any sort of regular basis. It's that kind of blatant whoring out of myself that I didn't have on my blog, and it was nice. People had to work a little harder to find our blogs, and even if they found them, it wasn't always clear who was who, and I liked that. I liked that we knew who was who, and we had fun writing posts about trivial matters, or real matters, and responding to one another. Or maybe you didn't, and I was the only one having fun. But I doubt that.
I'm not trying to make this into a call to blog-arms (or maybe I am), I just wanted to reminisce a little, I suppose. In any case, I'm going to be blogging. I'm not trying to say that as some earth-shaking pronouncement of my return to this little place, simply that if you want to read some slightly funny things every now and then, here's one option.
Hello,
DS
P.S. I know there are those of you, better people than me, who have kept up their blogs since their inception, and I think you're awesome.
4 things:
I'm very glad to hear of your return. The internet is a better place for it. I'm in the midst of a kind of blogging renaissance myself, albeit a very brief one.
Aye, those were the days.
What do you mean by brief? Is it true you're really going to wrap things up for good in the next three weekends? Say it ain't so.
Aye, they were.
It's true. As least as far as the old 20 feet blog is concerned. I may start another blog, or quasi-blog, or post-blog, but that's not likely to happen until about December, if at all.
I hear a call to arms... it is in the air. I have been hearing it, not only here, but amongst others in various places at various times. This is the dawn of a new era! Shake the earth! Pronounce with conviction! It is about time.
