Brace Yourself.
What exactly does ass-kicking mean when used to describe music? I bought The Go! Team's new disc and a review said that it was totally ass-kicking musak. I don't really understand. Is ass-kicking a positive descriptor? Because, mostly, when I think of getting an ass-kicking, memories of cul-de-sac fistfights and basketball games versus Ross Shep in the 2000 season flood my memory and are generally unpleasant when they do. Is that what the music is supposed to make me feel? Am I supposed listen and reminisce about the time Jermaine Bucknor dropped 82 on us in a 182-31 whomping? Or is it the music's ambition to bring back the shock and pain of several random fists placed rather heavily on my facial region? I just don't get it. Personally, if I were to review music, I don't think that ass-kicking would be a part of my list of synonyms for 'good'.
Just a thought.
